Times have changed haven’t they? What an incredible thing it is for you to have the opportunity to choose the therapist who has just the expertise you seek and who seems the best fit for you as a person in a truly convenient, private and accessible atmosphere. I am Dr. Linda Porter-Wenzlaff, counseling psychologist, and I applaud both your choice of online counseling and your choice to invest in yourself. Seeking online coaching or counseling is a serious personal commitment and I truly honor the work involved and those engaged in the process. My approach is to collaborate closely with my clients on their quest for a more aware, healthy and fulfilling future. I believe there is much to learn through the process of counseling but I also believe in solid, beneficial and tangible outcomes. We will work tenaciously to meet your goals.
My background and education are eclectic by design. I believe both a broad range of knowledge and expertise and a significant depth of knowledge and expertise are highly beneficial to comprehensively understanding something (seeing both the forest and the trees so to speak). I hold a PhD and Master of Arts Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy as well as a Master of Science Degree in Nursing specializing in children and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Counselor Supervisor in Texas as well as a Nationally Certified Counselor. I am also a registered nurse in Texas and a nationally board certified advanced nurse administrator. I am a recognized expert in animal assisted therapy and serve as a team evaluator for the Delta Society. My professional work over the past 30 years has encompassed practice, education and administration. The combination affords me the opportunity to see life’s aspects from many sides.
I have worked as a practicing nurse with children, their parents and families dealing with chronic and terminal illness in Children’s Hospitals, specialty clinics and in the community. As a nurse my counseling education and experience enhances my ability to assist children and families cope with the personal and interpersonal impact of illness. As a counselor my nursing experience and knowledge of nutrition, biology, pharmacology, physiology and neurology informs my work with clients in a holistic manner.
Leadership and management of people and organizations are areas of personal interest and expertise. I have consulted, presented, published and taught in this area for many years. I have held various administrative and leadership positions including Vice President, acting in a Chief Operating Officer role, in a children’s hospital within a larger corporation. I have been a university professor at both Indiana University and currently hold a faculty position at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where I have been Director of an undergraduate program track. This has provided me with extensive experience working with college students challenged by various life and academic issues.
In a counseling role I have worked within a school district teen parenting program; with persons after manmade and natural disasters; and, practiced in community and private settings providing individual, couples, and family counseling. I have an individual, marriage and family therapy practice in the San Antonio, Texas area. My areas of online counseling, telephone and e-therapy foci include:
