Hello! I’m looking forward to working with you regarding any general counseling issues as well as any concerns that you might have about your children and your ability to successfully work with the public school system as an advocate for your child.
I’ve been working as a professional general counselor for the past 15 years. Twelve of the fifteen years I worked as a certified School Counselor within the Texas public school system. As a school counselor, I primarily worked with high-risk youth and their families. I developed Behavior Plans for out of control students who did not have the necessary social skills to conduct themselves appropriately within the mainstream classroom setting. One of my main duties was to identify and assess students with disabilities.
Working with the families of high risk kids was very satisfying. I would frequently do home visits to work with the families. My goal was to provide education to the families regarding how to access the many community resources available to them. Therefore, I not only acted in the capacity of a School Counselor, but I also used my training as a licensed general counselor.
During my years as a school counselor, I frequently provided educational training sessions for teachers. Frequently, the teachers might request a topic of particular concern.
However, I taught practical psychology and techniques that the teachers could take and use in their classroom the very next day.
As a Texas LPC, I’ve worked with families in crisis. I’ve worked with individuals dealing with a range of problems---divorce, remarriage, changing careers, difficult children, depression, and the suicide of a child.
My professional focus as your Internet Counselor is to help you find the solution to your problem and whatever seemingly overwhelming challenge may be facing you. I believe that each person is the expert on what they want and need in life to find fulfillment. My job will be to assist you and encourage you while you try to figure how what will work for you. I will be happy to make suggestions and offer ideas for your consideration, but I can’t tell you what to do or solve your problem for you.
My hobbies include having fun with my kids, three boys, age 6, 13 and 16 and one daughter who is 20 years old and away at college.
I love to ride my bike. However, right now I’ve discovered a terrific stress buster activity. I wait until I have the house all to myself. Then I grab my Walkman, slap on the headphones, and I dance until I drop!
Books have always been a passion. However, it’s hard to find enough quiet, alone time to really get into a good book. I just finished “The Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls.
My other passion is cats. Currently we have two purebred Ragdolls, “Paulina” and “B.J”; a purebred Birman, “Oliver;” and a purebred Turkish Angora. “Babette.”
Again, I am looking forward to working with you. At present, I am available via phone and e-mail by appointment only on mental health online counseling sessions. I am willing to be flexible in my scheduling to help serve your needs. I have appointment times available during the day, Monday through Friday. I have a few openings in the evenings before 8 PM CST, and I have a few openings during the weekends also.
