My name is Tom Schear. I live in a small town in north central Iowa. For years, while working at various mental health and substance abuse counseling agencies, I was never totally satisfied with what I was doing or what the client was getting. Paperwork and bureaucracy always seemed to create more problems than it solved. The Internet opened a whole new world of possibilities for me as it eliminated or greatly reduced the problems I saw enabling me to truly focus on the person being served.

It has enabled me to provide counseling/coaching services to anyone anywhere in the world. The counseling relationship is not only confidential but as anonymous as the client wishes it to be. Jargon-free consultation which de-emphasized diagnosis enhanced the relationship, keeping it on a positive note and moving forward while living in the here and now rather than always looking back.

My education (MA in counseling and Ph.D. in social services) and experience as a front-line counselor, supervisor, program director and college instructor have all been helpful with my professional credentials (Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Marriage & Family Counselor and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor). These have enabled me to work at some interesting jobs, usually resulting in fulfilling experiences over the years. But it was my experience and training with Coach University that really helped to breathe new life into my passion for helping people become the most they can be. And the clients I have served since 2000 as a counselor, life coach and small business coach has provided satisfaction for me and enabled me to truly help those I serve - whether it is to help stabilize recovery from addiction, find and follow a person's life's passion, remove the roadblocks in their lives, or to figure out how to operate both their business and have a life.
